2021-2022 SCHOOL YEAR

June 1, 2022

Information about end of year events:

1. Today, your student will be meeting their new teacher. They will be in their new classrooms through the end of the day and then dismissed through their new grade level doors (ie. this year 1st graders will come out the 2nd grade doors).

2. Friday is our last day of school for grades 1-6. It will be our regular Friday schedule of 9-1 and students will have lunch. Our 6th grade Clap Out will be different due to the lunch/recess schedule. The Clap out will begin at 12:55 and your 6th grade students will exit out their 6th grade doors. We ask that all parents wait on the sidewalks until they are invited onto the playground. Parents of 6th graders will be able to watch/participate outside of these doors on the playground.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

ATTENDANCE MATTERS!
When do absences become a problem?
In a 180-day school year, 18 or more absences are considered chronically absenteeism and can cause children to fall behind.A warning sign for school is when absences are between 10-17 days. Absences and tardiness can affect the whole classroom when the teacher has to slow down learning to help children catch up.If a student has 9 or less absences, it is considered satisfactory attendance. What you can do to help your child attend regularly:
Set a regular bedtime and morning routine.
Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before.
Keep your child healthy and make sure your child has the required shots.
Develop backup plans for getting your child to school if something comes up. Call on a family member, a neighbor or another parent.
If your child seems anxious about going to school, talk to teachers, our school counselor and administrators for advice on how to make your child feel comfortable and excited about learning.
Try to schedule appointments and extended trips when school is not in sessionOur kindergarten, second and fifth grade classes are extremely close in our attendance contest. All three grades are at 93% average attendance. There is still time for the other grades to catch up with them and win!ACTIVITIES:

Dear Parents,

Thank you for your support during what has been one of the most challenging years in education.

In order to focus on the wellbeing of students, families, and employees, Friday, February 11 will be converted from a flexible Friday to a Health and Wellness day.

The District will provide access to a range of online Health and Wellness information and curriculum for families and students of all ages. All materials will be emailed to parents directly so you can make choices about what resources provided to you would be most helpful and appropriate for members of your family.

Student work will not need to be submitted to the school or district. Families will be able to choose how they wish to engage with the materials provided. There will be no school meals, busing, or access to teachers on Friday, February 11.

We take seriously our role as a support to the primary learning that happens within the family. We hope you will find the time and resources helpful in promoting greater health and wellness in our community.

More information will be forthcoming. Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,
Jordan School District

As we have shifted to virtual learning next week, we have rescheduled our Leader of the Month Assembly to January 26, 2022 at 2:00 pm.

We have had concerns with cars in the pick-up lane crossing over the yellow line. We will have it more clearly painted and place cones on the line to help drivers to more clearly see the line. In addition, we will have students wait for their rides at the wall of the school to ensure their safety. Thank you for your continued support and patience!

GOLDEN GATE KIDS:

Our January Golden Gate pledge is "I will make someone’s day .” As we continue this month with making someone’s day. Here is a list of compliments to make someone's day. 1) Your smile is contagious. 2) You have the best laugh. 3) You're an awesome friend. ('Friend' can be easily substituted for husband, daughter, work BFF...you get the idea.) 4) You're more helpful than you realize. 5) Is that your picture next to "charming" in the dictionary? 6) On a scale from 1 to 10, you're an 11. 7) Your inside is even more beautiful than your outside. 8) You're like sunshine on a rainy day. 9) You bring out the best in other people. 10) Your ability to recall random factoids at just the right times is impressive. 11) Being around you makes everything better. 12) Jokes are funnier when you tell them. 13) You're better than a triple-scoop ice cream cone. With sprinkles. 14) You're inspiring. 15) If you were a box of crayons, you'd be the big industrial name-brand one with a built-in sharpener. 16) Our community is better because you're in it. 17) You always know how to find that silver lining. 18) Everyone gets knocked down sometimes; only people like you get back up again and keep going. 19) You're more fun than bubble wrap. 20) You're like a breath of fresh air.

SAFETY:

Happy New Year! As we begin the second half of our school year, please remember the lane on the west side of the school is for drop off/pick up.  Please park your car and walk your child through the crosswalk on the north side, in front of the school, rather than allowing your child out of the car in the parking lot.

We have timed the length of time for pick up in the lane on the west side after school. We have all students in their cars and the pick up lane cleared by 3:15. Please be patient and kind when picking up your child after school.

ACTIVITIES:

Our fundraiser reward assembly had to be rescheduled due to our virtual snow day in December.  Our teachers (and Ms. C) will  participate in some crazy things in a fun assembly on January 13.

Choir begins this Friday, January 7, at 8:15. If your child in grades 2-6 would like to participate, please complete the permission form by Wednesday, January 5.

GOLDEN GATE KIDS:

Our January Golden Gate pledge is "I will make someone’s day .” Adam Grant and Aliison Sweet state: “Kids learn what’s important to adults not by listening to what we say, but by noticing what gets our attention. Stop Trying to Raise Successful Kids and Start Raising Kind Ones. Kids are very attuned to the gaps between what adults say and what adults actually do. When parents are asked what they want most for their children, 90% say they want their children to be caring. When children are asked what their parents want for them, 81% say they value achievement over caring. In many societies, parents pay more attention to achievement than to anything else. Even if we praise kindness and caring, we aren’t showing that we value those things. Many children see kindness as a chore rather than a choice. Experiments show that when children are given the choice to share instead of being forced to, they’re more likely to be generous later. When children are praised for helping, they’re more likely to help again! If you teach children to be kind, you’re setting them up and others around them for success!

PARENT/GUARDIAN CHALLENGE:

This month, we challenge each of you to start a family challenge of making each other's day. How many times in a week can you make someone’s day? Ideas include: leaving a nice note, helping with a chore, saying kind words, or playing a game together.

COMMUNITY:

We have a wonderful opportunity for our students in grades 3-6 during the evening of January 13. Falcon Ridge Community Code Night will be held from 6-7:30. Come and learn how to code from Skill Struck. There is a limit of 100 students in grades 3-6. Please sign up using the QR code below.

December 13, 2021

SAFETY:

With our first snowstorm we had more parents picking students up, therefore, we want to remind parents to drop off and pick up their children past the dumpsters on the west side. It is safer for them to get out of the car or wait on the sidewalk then to try and move around cars in the line. Please be polite and kind to our teachers and safety patrol as they direct you to move forward.

Lastly, please be aware of parents and students walking in the parent parking lot. We had a near miss with a mom and her child this week when someone was not paying attention. We want all our families to be safe!

Faculty and staff have been asked to park in the faculty parking lot to free up more spaces in the parent parking lot so we ask that parents park in front of the school rather than trying to navigate the west drop off/pick up line. Thank you for your cooperation!

ACTIVITIES:

The PTA fundraiser was a HUGE success! We surpassed our goal and the students earned their fun assembly. Our teachers have graciously agreed to participate in some crazy things to the delight of our students. We will take pictures and share them with you!

Thank you to Karen Beebe and her many, many volunteers for their time and efforts to make our Holiday shop a success. We appreciate our PTA and your support!

GOLDEN GATE KIDS:

Our December Golden Gate pledge is "I will be in charge of my own happiness.” The all-important truth about happiness is this: your happiness depends much more on your attitude than it does on objects or external circumstances. Talk with your children about the importance of a positive attitude.

As we begin our Winter break, I wish each student and their families a safe and restful holiday season. My hope is that we all spend the time to disconnect from the rush of our everyday lives and find renewal in spending time with our families and friends. We look forward to seeing everyone on January 3, 2022.

SEGURIDAD:

Jr Falcon Parents,

Candy Cane Lane (A Children’s Holiday Store) is opening for business tomorrow.  Just as a reminder, the PTA is providing the Holiday Store as a service for the students at Falcon Ridge Elementary.  No profit will be earned by the PTA or the school.  As always, participation in the Candy Cane Lane shopping event is completely optional.  Please remind your student that the purpose of the store is to buy gifts for others.  While we know there will be many wonderful things that they may want, this is not the time to spend money on themselves.

In case you have not yet received the flyer sent home with your student, here is some important information that may be of interest to you:

We will accept cash, check, or Fun Services vouchers as payment in the store.

Interested in purchasing a voucher online to avoid sending your student to school with cash?  Please purchase your voucher here:

Holiday Shop (funservicescolorado.com)

The voucher (filled out with the correct information, including a specific authorization code) MUST be presented at the time of purchase.  Each student will need to present their own voucher, siblings cannot share the same voucher.  We will do our best to assist your student in spending the amount you purchase on the voucher as we do not want students dealing with large sums of cash on the way home from school.

We are also accepting checks; however, no change will be given on a transaction paid with a check.  Our volunteers will make sure the entire amount tendered will be purchased.  Please make checks payable to Falcon Ridge Elementary PTA and indicate the student’s name on the memo line of the check.  Again, each student will need to have their own check, siblings cannot share the same check.

Lastly, please see the attached flyer for the class schedule.

FRE PTA_Candy Cane Lane Schedule

Questions or concerns?  Please contact Karen Beebe via text at 801-419-3271 or email at karenrbeebe@msn.com.

We are so excited to share this experience with our Jr Falcons.  It is so fun to watch them excitedly shop for their loved ones!

SAFETY:

We are expecting our first snow storm this week. Please be careful and watch for students walking to and from the school as well as on the school grounds.

As always, the safety of our students is our first priority so we ask that you be patient, kind, and understanding with one another and with our safety patrol and teachers on duty.

ACTIVITIES:

The PTA fundraiser is winding down this week. Thank you for the overwhelming response and support. Please return money and unused products by this Wednesday, December 8.

This week is the PTA Holiday shop. This is an opportunity for students to purchase presents for their family. Teachers have signed up for a time for their classes to visit the holiday shop. Contact your child’s teacher for information about their time.

With our last two weeks before winter break, the teachers and school have some fun activities planned for students. One of which is a spirit week planned by our student council for December 13-17. More information will be coming soon.

GOLDEN GATE KIDS:

Our December Golden Gate pledge is "I will be in charge of my own happiness.” Mandy Hale said, “Happiness is an inside job. Don’t assign anyone else that much power over your life.” You are responsible for your own life experiences. Being responsible means not blaming others for your unhappiness. It means figuring out ways to be happy despite others’ negative behaviors and outside influences.

CANDY CANE LANE:

A Children’s Holiday Store

Tuesday 12/7/21 through Friday 12/10/21

Our 5th Annual Children’s Holiday Store is almost ready to open! We are excited to offer this event for the students at Falcon Ridge Elementary again this year.  Items are priced between $0.50 and $10, so there will surely be something available for any budget.  Candy Cane Lane is not a fundraiser for the school or the PTA.  It is a service provided for our children by the PTA.  This is a wonderful opportunity for our children to think about others during the holiday season by purchasing small gifts for the people they love.  As always, participation in the event is completely optional.

Candy Cane Lane will be open for our Jr. Falcons the week of Tuesday, December 7th through Friday, December 10th.  Each class will take a turn to shop sometime between Tuesday and Friday, during the school day.  A follow-up Skylert will be sent out as soon as the schedule of class rotations has been finalized.

We will need many volunteers to make this event a success!  We need at least 5 volunteers in each of the following time slots:

Tuesday 12/7:  1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Wednesday 12/8:  9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Wednesday 12/8:  1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Thursday 12/9:  9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Thursday 12/9:  1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Friday 12/10:  9:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.

Please contact Karen Beebe via email (karenrbeebe@msn.comOpens in a new window) or text (801-419-3271) to volunteer.  This is such a fun and fulfilling event to witness.  Please reach out today to help make this a great experience for the students at Falcon Ridge Elementary!

Our November Golden Gate pledge is "I will treat others and myself with kindness and respect." When someone respects you, they will honor your judgement, believe in your abilities, think highly of you, and trust that you told the truth. Respect can be given from many people like family, friends, co-workers, and even strangers! Self respect is as hard as earning the respect of others. People with self respect will be more confident, trust your judgement, and have high
self-esteem. Gaining self respect can be as hard as earning respect from others. To gain self respect, start by loving yourself! Look at the positive in yourself and focus on your positive traits. Next, believe in your choices and abilities. If you are wrong sometimes, that's okay! Ignore the negatives and thrive on the positives! This month, we challenge your family to write notes to each family member. In this note, write down things that you like about them. Then, every family member will write a note to themselves listing things that they like about themself.

GOLDEN GATE KIDS:

Dear Parents/Guardians:

We want to hear about your experience with your student’s education. We invite you to participate in completing the Utah School Climate Survey from the Utah State Board of Education. This survey includes questions about your student’s learning, school safety, and interpersonal relationships, as well as your attitudes about the institutional environment and your personal involvement in school. Your responses will be very helpful in improving student relationships, learning conditions, and the overall school environment.

Beginning today, Wednesday, March 24, we invite all parents, guardians and caretakers to complete this survey.  We ask that you please take this survey for each school at which you have one or more students enrolled. The survey is completely confidential and brief; it will take about six minutes to complete. Please submit your responses by May 7, 2021.

Survey results will only be reported as group responses. There are no right or wrong answers. We just want to know about your personal experiences. Responses are housed securely in an anonymous format with the Utah State Board of Education (USBE) for evaluation research purposes. All evaluation research projects are in compliance with the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act, (343 CFR 99.31 (6)) and human subjects regulations (Protection of Human Subjects 45 CFR 46).

As you respond to each item, think about your own personal experiences as a parent, caregiver or guardian at your student’s school. Please answer all of the questions.

We hope you will take the time to provide us with this valuable information. Each school’s total survey results will be used to inform and develop appropriate strategies, procedures, and/or programs to enhance our school climate.

The link to complete the survey is below:

If you have questions about this survey, please contact Ben Jameson, Director of Evaluation, Research & Accountability, at ben.jameson@jordandistrict.org.

Thank you for your time and participation!

We are so grateful for the support for our PTA!  While we did not meet our fundraising goal of $6,000 for this school year, we came very close.  The total amount collected by our students was $4,787.

Third grade had the most amount donated at $1,215.  That is more than 25% of the total fundraiser!  The PTA will provide a pizza party to the entire third grade to celebrate their success.

The following classes collected at least $300 each and will be awarded with a class popcorn party:

Mrs. Alder’s 3rd grade class

 Mrs. Gummersall’s kindergarten class;

Ms. Benson’s 3rd grade class

Mr. Rindlisbacher’s 4th grade class

Mrs. Edman’s 4th grade class

Mrs. Jameson’s kindergarten class.

Congratulations to the Top Five students collecting the most donations and earning the opportunity to spray Ms. Christensen with silly string:

Robbie Enriquez in Ms. Benson’s class

James Dixon in Mrs. Gummersall’s class

McKenna Dixon in Mrs. Alder’s class

Baylee Pett in Ms. Mortensen’s class

Savannah Quintana in Mrs. Jameson’s class

Weekly Update December 14-18

Wow! We are down to the last week of school in 2020! It has been a rollercoaster first half of the school year and we are extremely grateful for the faculty and staff, who have worked tirelessly ensuring students safety and learning every day! We appreciate your support, patience, understanding, and grace throughout this difficult year.

Ms. Christensen would like to do a short video of holiday traditions to share and need families willing to send her video of their kids. Right now, we have only had one video submitted. If your family would like to participate, please send a short video (1-2 min. long) of your kids sharing a family holiday tradition to theresa.christensen@jordandistrict.org by Monday, December 14.

Kindness is Contagious! Our Falcon Ridge school community has been spreading kindness throughout the school. This month we are catching others doing acts of kindness and spreading it further. As a reward for spreading kindness, our students will be having a PJs and Popcorn day on December 17!

We appreciate our Safety Patrol! This week, we highlight the office crosswalk and our 1st grade safety patrol members. Our office crosswalk and 1st grade safety patrol members are very important. The cones these members put out are the first line of safety for our students and help the flow of the parent parking lot. They make sure the bus line/crosswalk area stays safe for our students to cross as well as making sure that parents cross with their children through the parking lot. They really help the safety of our parent parking lot, where most of our students are arriving and departing from school. We appreciate your support of these students and want to remind parents to walk their children through the parking lot and across the crosswalk!

If you haven’t joined the PTA yet, we encourage you to support our students by joining today. Please refer to the attached flyer! Flyer_Membership

Weekly Update December 7-11

  • This week, we had our fire alarm go off during the middle of lunch. Our students were incredible! Although we haven’t had the opportunity to practice the actual drill and have only had instruction, they quickly exited the school (in under 2 minutes), lined up in their designated area and stayed calm. We are so proud of how they handle themselves in an emergency situation!
  • Incredibly, we are down to the last two weeks of school for 2020! Although our holiday celebrations will look a little different this year, our teachers have been planning some fun activities. Ms. Christensen would like to do a short video of holiday traditions to share and need families willing to send her video of their kids. If your family would like to participate, please send a short video (1-2 min. long) of your kids sharing a family holiday tradition to theresa.christensen@jordandistrict.org by Monday, December 14.
  • The Utah Department of Health is shortening the recommended quarantine period from 14 days to 10 days after a person has been exposed to COVID-19.

        Beginning today:

  • A quarantine will end after 10 days if no symptoms are reported.
  • A quarantined individual may return to school after seven days if they test negative on or after day seven and report no symptoms. This is only for an exposure that occurred outside of a household.
  • Kindness is Contagious! Our Falcon Ridge school community has been spreading kindness throughout the school. This month we are catching others doing acts of kindness and spreading it further. As a reward for spreading kindness, our students will be having a PJs and Popcorn day on December 17!
  • We appreciate our Safety Patrol! These 6th grade students arrive at school earlier than anyone else and stand outside in all types of weather to ensure the safety of our students. We appreciate the community members who follow their directions by crossing at crosswalks, turning into traffic safely, and watching their speed in the parking lots. Each week, we will highlight the responsibilities of our Safety Patrol so we can all be more aware of their efforts. This week, we learn about the captain position. The Captain of our safety patrol has many responsibilities. He/She keeps track of the attendance and tardies of each of their crew members. Then they put out the cones they are assigned with. He/She is then tasked with patrolling the area and making sure each of the other safety patrol members are at their station, and have any needs.  He/She also has the added responsibility that if any safety patrol member is absent, they know the job, and can take over that station if needed. The Captain really pulls the crew together!

Weekly Update November 23-24

It  is hard to believe we are already at Thanksgiving! As we reflect on the many things we are thankful for this week, I want each of you to know how thankful I am to be a part of the Falcon Ridge community. You have incredibly kind, hard-working, and amazing kids and I am grateful every day for each of them! I truly have the best job in the world!

With Thanksgiving this week, we have a short week with classes on Monday, Nov. 23 and Tues. Nov. 24. Please enjoy spending time with your families!

Last  Wednesday, Nov. 18, our School Community Council members met to discuss many items, one of which is the temperature at which we bring students in from the weather. We voted to change our morning temperature from 22 degrees to 24 degrees. This will be from 8:00-10:00 then we will switch to the 22 degrees for recesses, etc. When determining the action to take, we look at the “feels like” temperature not the actual temperature. We realize the mornings can be colder up on the hill and have adjusted it accordingly. Teachers bring students into the building at 8:25 so please have your student arrive between 8:15-8:25 and they won’t be standing outside for as long.

We have been having issues with traffic backing up on the west side of the school (by the dumpsters) for morning drop off. We are asking parents to please pull all the way forward to drop their  students off. We appreciate your cooperation and thoughtfulness for others.

If you would like to make a change to your child’s learning environment, either from in-person to online or online to in-person, now is the time to make that request. The instructions are below:

Complete the form in Skyward Family Access by Wednesday, December 2, 2020, 11:59 p.m. if you would like to request a change to your student's learning option, either moving to in-person or moving to online, starting on January 20, 2021. This form must be completed by Wednesday, December 2, 2020, 11:59 p.m. to be considered for a possible change to your student's online or in-person placement beginning January 20, 2020. A separate form is required for each student. Not all requests may be accommodated based on space available in online and in-person classes. Only those requests entered in Skyward by the deadline will be considered for changes in January.

  • Only complete this form if you would like to change your student's current learning option.
  • This Skyward form is the official request for a change beginning January 20, 2021.
  • A separate request form is required for each student.
  • Only requests submitted through Skyward by the deadline of Wednesday, December 2, 2020, 11:59 p.m. will be considered for changes based on teacher availability and space available in classrooms.

Thank you for attending our virtual parent teacher conference with your child’s teacher. It was a great opportunity to check-in and our teachers enjoyed visiting with you.

While parent teacher conferences have ended, the virtual book fair is still going strong. Come shop at our virtual book fair this year. It’s easy peasy and ships right to your home. Why shop at our book fair? Book fair sales earn reward points for our school that help us buy books to use for breakfast with books, rewards that children have received at school, and have helped build the classroom libraries. It’s a win win for all of us!! You are helping your child learn to love reading when you build your own library at home. The fall book fair also comes at a perfect time to buy books for Christmas and who couldn’t use an escape away with a good book right now? Click on the link to place your order!

Weekly Update for September 14-18

We have completed our first full week of September and we are starting to feel and see the changes in the season! Even though it is getting cooler in the mornings, please remember to send your child with a full water bottle each day. They still need to stay hydrated and our drinking fountains are closed to use.

Our students are adjusting well to the many changes as we try to maintain a sense of normalcy at school. Please remember we still have different policies in place to ensure the safety and health of our students, staff, and teachers. We ask that parents and other adults remember to wear a mask on school property and send birthday treats which are store bought and individually wrapped.

Friday is an academic day and learning is still occurring. Your child should have assignments to be completed, either paper or online, and may be invited to come to in-person learning from 10:00 to 12:00. This is a wonderful opportunity for our teachers to work one-on-one or in small groups with students and we hope you will take advantage of an invitation for this opportunity. We have made a change to the Friday lunch pick-up time. Lunch is available from 11:30-12:00 for pick up using the southwest cafeteria doors. If you will be having your child pick up lunch, please call the school by 9:00 on Friday morning so we may prepare the right amount of food.

Our students are learning how to be bridge builders in our character education and STEM classes for the month of September. Our Golden Gate Kids program is in full swing. Please read the attached parent letter and have a discussion with your child.

Dear Parents,

As we begin the 2020-21 school year next week, the Salt Lake County Health Department is providing some clarification regarding face coverings and keeping students home when they exhibit COVID-19 symptoms.

We hope this information will be helpful to parents who have had questions about face coverings and keeping students home when they are sick. Please contact your school for any questions or clarifications regarding the information provided below.

Use the link below to read the most frequently asked questions about wearing face coverings in schools.

Please review the following notice from Jordan School District regarding the recent mask update.

Dear Parents,

As you may be aware, The Utah Department of Health issued a public health order update clarifying the standards for face coverings in schools.

The order states that every individual inside of a school building or on a school bus must wear a face mask which covers the nose and mouth without openings that can be seen through. Face masks must fit securely under the chin and snugly against the sides of the nose and the face, even when an individual is able to physically distance.

The order also clarified that face shields may only be worn without a face mask when the ability to see the mouth is essential for communication, including for an individual who is deaf or hard of hearing or while participating in speech therapy.

An individual with a medical condition, mental health condition, or other disability that prevents wearing a face mask may be exempted from wearing a mask by submitting  the form found at the link below.

We wish you the very best as the school year begins next week.

July 14, 2020 New Principal Introduction

Dear Parents and Friends,

I am so delighted to introduce myself as your new principal at Falcon Ridge Elementary.  I am truly honored and excited to be a part of this amazing community. In the few interactions I have had with teachers, staff, students, and families, I know that Falcon Ridge Elementary is an incredible community. I want to support the work of the faculty, staff, students, and community while continuing Falcon Ridge’s goals for student success.

I love teaching! Throughout my careers, I have been a corporate trainer and manager then spent several years in the classroom, teaching fifth, third, and first grade.  I have an avid interest in assisting students and teachers in reaching their highest potential. I was a behavior specialist for several years. My desire to be a positive impact in the community and to help others obtain their own success are the main reasons I became an administrator.  I began my administrative journey several years ago as an assistant principal at Hayden Peak and Oakcrest Elementary. This last year I have served as the assistant principal at Eastlake Elementary. I have learned so much from the students, parents, and teachers at these schools, and I look forward to learning more from the amazing Falcon Ridge community.  I am a life-long learner and recently completed my doctoral level studies at Grand Canyon University. I am the mother of three grown children, each with their own talents and strengths. As such, I understand the challenges and celebrations you face each day to ensure your child has the best educational experiences. In my free time, I love spending time with my family. Home is one of my favorite places; however, I love to travel and explore, especially with my children. I love warm (hot) climates and the beach!

One of my most important goals as principal at Falcon Ridge will be to build strong relationships with students, teachers, and families.  In order for this to be accomplished, my plan is to be in the hallways, classrooms, the cafeteria, on the playground and be accessible to students, parents, teachers, and staff.  It is extremely important for everyone in the community to feel safe, confident, and connected. I will work diligently with teachers and staff to make sure our students are immersed in curriculum and instruction that is engaging, rewarding, and challenging. I have an open door policy and will be available for you. I welcome your input and ideas. Helen Keller once stated, “Alone we can do so little. Together we can do so much.” I am looking forward to getting to know each of you and working together for a strong, kind Falcon Ridge community.

Kind Regards,

Theresa Christensen, MAT, Ed.S.

Falcon Ridge School News

State STEM Fair Winner

Recently, Bracken Wooten, a Fifth grade student at Falcon Ridge Elementary, took second place in the State at the Central Utah STEM Fair for his STEM project. His project, A Salty Mystery, was a chemistry experiment in which he tested to see if the amount of salt put into a sugary dessert recipe affected the taste of the dessert. The results were to use the amount of salt called for in a recipe, no salt in a recipe or double the salt in a recipe. Congratulations Bracken for your hard work and for representing Falcon Ridge Elementary well! We also want to congratulate our other students who attended the STEM Fair and who also worked hard on their projects!

Queridos padres,

El gobernador Gary Herbert anunció hoy que el despido escolar de todas las escuelas de Utah se extenderá por el resto del año escolar 2019-2020 para ayudar a prevenir la propagación de COVID-19.

What a wild week this has been with transitioning to online schooling. Teachers and staff members have been working diligently to create meaningful content for your children. I think everyone has had a bit of a learning curve this week while adjusting to school at home. Each day seems to be better than the previous day and more students are accessing the curriculum. Please encourage your child to message his/her teacher if he/she has questions or concerns. Parents can message teachers as well. We are here to support your child with online learning. Thank you for all that you are doing at home to support your child too!

 PTA President Message

I can’t believe it is already February!  We have made it through the month of January.  The school year is more than half over. It really seems to be flying by. Many people consider February to be the “month of love” – but I personally love February because it means we are on the downhill slide from winter into spring.

Having Family Month in January was a huge hit at Falcon Ridge.  We had over 250 attendees join us for a fun night at Classic Skating.  Art Night and the Family Dance Party were well attended and a lot of fun as well.  It is wonderful to gather as a community and enjoy some downtime with our great students and their parents.

We have had a great year so far.  There has been a great turnout for PTA sponsored events.  But as you know, these events would not be successful without the help from you – the parents of these great kids.  Your willingness to volunteer is what makes the difference. In addition to helping here and there, we need parents to join us by serving as members on the board.  Very soon it will be time to look at filling next year’s board positions. We will be announcing open commissions next month. If you are interested in serving on the board, please send me an email at falconridgepta@gmail.com.

As always, it is a pleasure to serve you and your children.  It is so fulfilling to get to know your little ones and see the joy on their faces when they recognize us at the school.  Whether with rewards such as a fun assembly or a popcorn party for a school contest, our children think PTA means fun. And it does!  So please join us and help when you can. Or better yet – come and serve on the Falcon Ridge Elementary PTA board. I promise you won’t regret it                                                                                                                                                                                                                Sincerely,
Karen Beebe

Harassment/Bullying Policy

Bullying and harassment are not tolerated at Falcon Ridge Elementary. Bullying is when a person or group of people repeatedly seeks to belittle, scare, hurt, put down, tease, threaten, harm, or intimidate another person. (see complete Policy as098)

 Bullying and harassment can be:

  • Verbal: The bully aggressively teases or calls names.
  • Physical: The bully physically hits, shoves, punches, pokes, bumps, corners, or harms you.
  • Visual: (leering, showing embarrassing material)
  • Emotional: The bully uses gestures, notes, rumors, gossip, etc. against someone. The bully may also exclude you or use your relationships with friends as a weapon.
  • Cyber: The bully uses emails, text messages, Facebook, Twitter, other social networking websites, or other electronic devices to hurt someone.

Students Responsibility:

What should you do if you are getting bullied? Try the following:

  1. Tell the bully to "STOP". Look the bully in the eye without emotion or fear and command him or her to stop.
  2. If the bully continues to bother you, WALK AWAY.
  3. If that doesn’t work, TELL AN ADULT (Teacher, Administrator, Counselor, Parent or an adult you trust). If you remain in silence, nobody will know and you will continue to suffer at the hands of the bully.

Teacher/Administration Responsibility:

  1. Investigate
  2. Inform the parents/guardians
  3. Provide consequences as necessary

All reports of bullying are confidential and handled carefully. Remember: Everyone has a right to come to school and feel safe! If you are bullying others, stop. Parents will be notified when bullying is taking place.

For those students who choose this behavior, consequences may include:

  • Mandatory parent/guardian conference
  • Loss of recess or activity
  • Lunch Detention
  • In School Suspension (ISS)
  • Suspension from school

School Comunity Council Information can be found on this website under the "Community" tab at the top of this website page. Take a look, if you are interested in what is being discussed during these meetings.
