This school reopening plan is based on the Jordan School District 2020-2021 Reopening plan.

 

Action Plan with Mitigating Strategies:
SCHOOL GENERAL INFORMATION 

Schedules (M – Th + F), School-Wide requirements, Chromebooks, etc.

  Schedule:

  • In-person classes will be held Monday – Thursday from 8:30-3:05
  • Friday instruction will be assigned for completion at home. In addition, individual and small groups will occur at the school between 10:00-12:00 by invitation of the teacher. Teachers will notify students and parents of in-person Friday instruction a week in advance.

School-wide Safety Expectations:

  • All students, faculty and staff will wear face masks in all areas of the school, and when arriving and leaving school.
  • Routines for handwashing and sanitation have been established throughout the school.
  • Floors and walls have been marked to assist with social distancing, where possible.

Chromebooks:

  • Chromebooks will be checked out to each student, virtual and in-person, and logged in their Skyward account. Parents will sign the Chromebook agreement and be responsible for the chromebooks.
  • Chromebooks checkout for virtual learners will occur August 19-21 by appointment.
  • Chromebooks checkout for in-person students will occur the first two weeks of school.
SCHOOL PLAN DETAILS BY LOCATION
Plans to support “Before Coming to School”: 

At Home:

  • Parents will conduct temperature and symptom checks at home using the copy of the symptom self checklist provided by the school. If a student is ill or exhibiting symptoms, parents will keep their student home.

Arriving at school:

  • When students arrive, they will line up in their assigned area. They will follow the guide for social distancing and wear their masks. The play structures, play areas, and field are off limits before and after school.
  • Teachers will greet their class at their designated area at 8:25 AM. They will stagger classes entering the building.
  • Students who arrive between 8:25-8:45 will need to enter through the front of the building and will be guided to walk directly to class. Teachers will mark tardies in class.
  • Students who arrive after 8:45 will need to enter through the front of the school and will stop at the office window for check-in. Communicating the reason for late check-in should be done by phone or written note rather than in-person by the parent.
  • At this time, no parents or visitors may walk students to their classrooms. Only students, faculty and staff will be permitted in the hallways, cafeteria, and classrooms. 

Before school starts preparation:

  • Falcon Ridge will provide a health/symptoms checklist. Families will be reminded to check  their child’s skin for warmth or redness, or ask if he/she has chills if they do not have a thermometer.
  • Administration, school nurse and Special Education team will review and update health plans, 504s and IEPs.
  • Falcon Ridge will work with families who have identified their students as high-risk and allow for accommodations in the classroom.
  • Administration will enforce the wearing of face masks for students without exemption documentation, using typical school discipline processes.
  • Revised grading and attendance policies will be applied so students are not penalized for staying home ill or isolating.
Plans to support “Bussing”
  • No buses are assigned to Falcon Ridge Elementary.
Plans for Office
  • All students, faculty and staff will wear face masks when in the office.
  • Parents and visitors will enter through the right front door and exit to the left. The door to the office will remain closed. All communication with the office will occur on the video call box.
  • Employees will enter the office through the office door and exit through the door by the boxes. Employees must maintain a distance of 6 feet from others and avoid congregating in the office.
  • Limited volunteers will be permitted and only for essential programs. Prior arrangements must be made for volunteer/visitor access.
  • Falcon Ridge’s quarantine room has been located in the conference room. This will allow for students with symptoms to socially distance from other students in the room.
  • Utah Health Department guidelines will be followed regarding notification, privacy, and quarantine/isolation of Covid-19 symptoms and cases.
  • Hand sanitizer will be available outside the office doors and inside the office.
  • Students will have limited access to the office. Phone calls home must be essential and will be placed from the classroom. Minor injuries will be handled on the playground. Office behavior referrals will push-out to classes.
  • For check-out, parents should call ahead. Parents will show their ID through the window in the front foyer. Parents will remain in the foyer and students will meet them there.

  • Holiday and birthday celebrations will be implemented by the school. School administration will visit the classes of students with birthdays and provide a treat. If parents choose to send a birthday treat, they must be brought by the student in the morning, be store-bought and individually wrapped. They will be handed out by the teacher.
  • Parents will be directed to leave items for students (forgot lunch/backpack) in the cubbie slot assigned to their class. Office staff will deliver the items to the students’ class.
  • Lost and found items without names will be quarantined for 72 hours. Custodial staff will store items and retrieve them for parents and students after they have notified the office.
  • A weekly newsletter will be emailed and sent to families through Skylerts with updates and information. Fliers will be included in this communication and not sent home.
Plans for Classrooms
  • All students, faculty and staff will wear face masks in class except for approved mask breaks provided by the teacher.
  • Teachers will space desks as far apart as possible.
  • Teachers will choose the best seating option for mask-exempt students.
  • Teachers will create seating charts to assist with contact tracing.
  • Rug and small group activities will be less than 15 minutes.
  • Backpacks, coats, and water bottles will be stored where they are not in contact with others.
  • Teachers will stagger classes entering/exiting the building, going to lunch, and going to PE, library, and music to limit contact in the halls and congestion at doors.
  • Where possible, teachers will prop their doors to limit the need to touch surfaces.
  • Students will use individual supplies wherever possible. Any shared items will be sanitized between uses.
  • Students will follow routines for handwashing and sanitizing.
  • Students should bring a water bottle each day. Water fountains will be off-limits.
  • Teachers will establish routines to limit congestion in the classroom.
  • Teachers will establish socially distance line-up procedures.
  • Teachers will supervise students as they clean their desks and chairs at the end of the day.
  • Students may make essential phone calls home (forgot lunch/backpack) from the classroom.
  • Teachers will have options for supporting students who are ill or isolating short-term with their academics.
  • Grading and attendance have been revised so students are not penalized for staying home ill or isolating.
  • Chromebooks will be checked out to individual students through Skyward.
  • Teachers will place lunch money or other items for the office on the clip outside their door by 9:00 AM each day.
Plans for Unique Courses: (music, theater, dance, CTE, PE)
  • All students, faculty and staff will wear face masks in music, character education and STEM classes. Face covering must be worn to and from PE but may be removed for socially distanced physical activities.
  • Students will have their temperature checked with a touchless thermometer prior to PE and music classes.
  • Students will remain in their classes for STEM and Character education classes.
  • Students must wash hands before and after rotations.
  • PE equipment will be sanitized between classes.
  • PE will be held outside when weather permits. In the event of bad weather, PE will be held in classes.
  • The field will be for PE and music use only.
  • Singing in music class will be limited to 10 minutes with masks. Dancing will occur outside in order to allow for social distancing.
Plans for Special Education Classrooms
  • Special Education teachers will follow the same classroom guidelines.
  • Face masks must be worn by students, faculty, and staff.
  • For speech, face masks may be removed and face shields may be used.
  • Plexiglass dividers are available for use during small groups.
  • Special Education teachers or aides will pick up and return students to their assigned classrooms.
  • Special Education teachers or aides will sanitize manipulatives, etc. between groups.
  • No free time as a reward, SpEd teachers will determine alternatives.
  • SpEd teachers will continue seating charts and assigned seating.
  • Grade K-2 SpEd teachers will sanitize surfaces and students in grade 3-6 will sanitize their desks under the supervision of the teacher.
Plans for Hallways
 
  • All students, faculty and staff will wear face masks in all areas of the school, and when arriving and leaving school.
  • Hallway traffic flow patterns will be posted. Students, faculty, and staff will remain to the right of the hallway and head directly to their destination. No congregating in the hallway.
  • Students will be supervised by adults at all times, entering the hallway as a destination only.
  • Students will walk single file, facing forward, checking the distance by putting one arm forward or using dots on the wall.
  • Students entering the hallway for the restroom must have a disposable hall pass.
  • Custodians and sweepers will clean and disinfect daily, all touch point areas, as outlined on each job card for their assigned area.
  • Students will bring refillable water bottles with his/her name on it. Drinking fountains will be closed. Parents are asked to ensure their student has a full bottle at the beginning of the day.
Plans for Cafeteria
 
  • Face masks must be worn when entering/exiting the cafeteria
  • Traffic flow patterns and line spacing will be posted.
  • Self-service salad bars and buffets will be removed.
  • Nutrition aides will wear face coverings.
  • Hand sanitizer will be provided at the entry and exit points for before/after meals.
  • Students will wash their hands before they come to lunch.
  • Students will be assigned seating by class and will sit on a spaced colored dot. Dots will be cleaned after each class.
  • Students are not required to wear masks while eating.
  • The wall between the gym and cafeteria will be opened and tables will be space 6 feet apart.
  • Classes will stagger their entry into the cafeteria.
  • Students must remain seated until they are dismissed by an adult.
  • School lunch will be served grab-and-go.
  • Students who have home lunch will take their lunch boxes outside and leave them against the wall–not touching others.
  • Breakfast will be served from 7:45-8:25. Students coming for breakfast will sit in their assigned seat and wait until 8:15 before being dismissed by an adult to line up in their assigned area.
  • Virtual learners can pick up lunch Monday – Thursday from 12:40-1:00 by entering the west side cafeteria doors. Parents must call the school by 9:00 AM each morning to order lunch for their virtual learner.
  • Friday lunch will be available from 11:00-12:00. All students can grab their lunches by entering the west side cafeteria doors.
  • Breakfast and lunch will be charged to the students’ accounts Monday – Friday.
Plans for Restrooms
  • Signs outlining proper hand washing and hand hygiene techniques will be posted above every sink.
  • Teachers will demonstrate proper hand washing on the first day and review often.
  • All restroom fixtures, sinks, toilets, stall doors, hardware, partition doors, and walls will be disinfected several times a day.  Floors will be mopped and disinfected daily.
  • Dots will be placed on the floor outside each restroom to encourage social distancing.
  • Students must use their assigned restroom and will be permitted to use it as needed. Only one student during class time will be permitted to use the restroom at a time.
  • Teachers will stagger times for their students to use the restrooms during recess and lunch.
  • Face masks are required in the restroom.
Plans for Recess/Playground
 
  • Face masks must be worn to and from recess and the playground. They do not need to be worn while playing.
  • Playground equipment will be sanitized on a regular basis.
  • Each class is assigned a section of the playground to play on a rotating basis (Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs). Students may only play in their assigned area with their class.
  • The field will not be used for recess.
  • Students will have colored lanyards to hold their mask and lunch card, which will allow for easy identification of class groups.
  • Students entering the building to use the restroom must have a disposable pass from the aides.
  • Only one student may come into the building at a time.
  • Minor injuries will be managed on the playground. Aides will have an ice chest with disposable ice packs as well as bandaids. Only head injuries and major bleeding will be sent to the office.
  • Students may not bring playground equipment or toys from home. Playground equipment will be provided.
  • Students may not play on the playground equipment or the field before or after school. 
Plans for Gymnasium
  
  • The gymnasium will be used as an overflow cafeteria to allow for tables to be placed 6 feet apart for social distancing.
Plans for Library
  • All students, faculty and staff will wear face masks in the library.
  • The library has been set up for socially distancing during stories and instruction.
  • Ten minutes between classes has been provided to allow for sanitation.
  • Library books will be quarantined for 72 hours after being returned.
  • Plexiglass has been provided for use in the library.
  • No before or after time will be provided in the library. Students may only enter the library with their class during their assigned time.
  • The library may not be used as a shortcut. Hallways must be used to navigate the school.
Plans for Stadium/Field
  • The Falcon Ridge field is off limits before/after school and for recesses. The field will be used for P.E. and Music classes only.
